CTO

Our client is an early-stage startup based in Barcelona, backed by Seed investors and preparing for its Series A. The product is live with its first paying customers, and the founding team is now looking for a technical leader to take it to the next stage.

As CTO, you will be responsible for all technology: architecture, product development, infrastructure, security and the engineering team. This is a hands-on role. In the first months you will write a lot of the code yourself, while you hire and build the team that will scale the product.

You will join the leadership team alongside the founders, take part in fundraising conversations and shape the culture of the company from the start. Equity is part of the package.

• Define and own the technology strategy and roadmap, aligned with the business plan.
• Stay hands-on: design the architecture and write production code, especially in the early months.
• Hire, lead and grow the engineering team, from the first hires to a team of several squads.
• Set up engineering practices: code review, testing, CI/CD, observability and incident management.
• Make build-versus-buy decisions and manage technology costs.
• Ensure security, data protection and regulatory compliance (including GDPR).
• Work with the founders and product to prioritise what to build and when.
• Represent the technology in front of investors, partners and key customers.

• 8+ years of software engineering experience, including at least 3 in a technical leadership role.
• Experience in startups or scale-ups, ideally having built a product from early stage.
• Strong hands-on skills in at least one modern stack (e.g. TypeScript/Node, Python or Go) and cloud (AWS or GCP).
• Experience designing scalable, secure architectures.
• Proven experience hiring and leading engineers.
• Product mindset and the ability to balance speed and quality.
• Excellent communication skills with technical and non-technical people.
• Fluent English; Spanish is a plus.

• Experience taking part in fundraising or investor due diligence.
